At least one person was killed and one other injured when two commercial boats collided along the Nile in South Sudan’s Jonglei State on Thursday evening.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Aleu Malual, the information secretary of the Boats Trade Union in Jonglei said the incident occurred at the eastern part of the Nile when a passenger boat and a another boat carrying cattle rammed each other.
Malual said one person drowned after jumping into the river while another one sustained fractures in his legs, as they tried to escape the accident.
He pointed out that the captains of the two boats have been arrested and are under police custody pending investigations.
