The authorities in Lakes State have confirmed that a Monday attack by armed youth in Tiatiap Payam in Cueibet County resulted in 146 head of cattle rustled, one person killed, and two others injured.
The acting police spokesperson in Lakes State, Lt. Col. Moses Machuoc Bol, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the attackers were identified to be from the Panyar section and raided the cattle from the Waat section of the same Gok community of Cueibet.
“It was on Monday at 4:00 pm when armed criminals from the Panyar section of Tiaptiap Payam attacked Kuac village killing at least 1 person, injuring 2 others, and raided 146 head of cattle from the Waat section of Pagoor Payam under Cueibet County,” he said. “The state government and Cueibet County commissioner have dispatched security forces to investigate and recover the raided cattle and apprehend the suspected raiders immediately.”
According to Lt. Col Machuoc, Governor Riny Tueny was in Cueibet County over the weekend and conducted several rallies.
“The governor held meetings with the communities in Cueibet and shortly after he left, the armed criminals from the Panyar section attacked killing people and raiding cattle shortly,” he said.
The police mouthpiece said Governor Tueny’s peace messages do not reach the armed youth in the state because rallies are conducted in the towns yet the youth who look after cattle are in remote far-flung areas.
He said the governor ordered security forces to recover the stolen cattle and return them to their rightful owners.
