At least one person was killed on Sunday by unknown gunmen who laid an ambush along the Juba-Mundri road.
Ishaq Abboud William, the Police Deputy Commissioner in the defunct Amadi State told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the gunmen stopped the vehicles, ordered the drivers out, and stole from the passengers. Unfortunately, they opened fire on one of the passengers who died on the spot.
"The incident happened yesterday at 7 p.m in a place called Lanyi about 24 miles from Mundri. Four vehicles coming from Juba going to Wau fell into an ambush by unknown gunmen and they killed one person called Daniel Deng," he said.
The police officer mentioned that the body of the deceased was taken to Lui Hospital. He said that initial investigations indicate that there were seven armed men in civilian clothes.
Abboud added that another vehicle fell into an ambush and was burnt down last week by unknown gunmen. He said the incidents will not discourage the police from doing their best to provide security.
