One killed as 4,000 cattle are stolen in Ayod County raid

One person was killed and over 4,000 head of cattle stolen in a violent cattle in Jonglei State’s Ayod County, official said.

Ayod County Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) MP Mary Nyualang raised the alarm in Parliament on Tuesday. She described the raid as brutal and devastating, noting that a mother of a three-month-old baby was killed in the attack.

The attack, allegedly carried out by thieves from the neighboring Uror County last week, has raised tensions and calls for intervention.

Nyualang detailed that the raiders, who fled back to Uror County, left a trail of destruction.

The local commissioner and his team managed to recover some of the stolen cattle, but the majority remain missing.

“The situation is extremely tense,” Nyualang told Parliament.

“We urge the authorities in Uror County to take responsibility and prevent further acts of violence and revenge.”

Efforts to reach Uror County officials for comment were not immediately successful.
