Authorities in Butagok Payam of Awerial County say one person was killed, five others wounded and more than 300 cattle stolen during a raid on Tuesday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the chief inspector of police in Butagok Payam John Cuei Keny Dut said one cattle owner identified as Thokluel Makuac Thokluel from the Aliap community was killed in the early morning attack.

"The raiders came in from hiding and made away with 315 cows, killing one and wounded five people," said Cuei.

He added that the five people wounded during the attack are receiving treatment in Butagok Hospital.

The police officer appealed to the bereaved family not to avenge the death.

"The police forces do not have the mobility to rescue any raided cattle from the criminals. And since all these activities occurred, only two bulls were returned and the rest of raided from Aliap community were not returned," he added.

The secretary-general of the defunct Eastern Lakes State Barnaba Mayor Deng also confirmed the incident and accused armed youth from Yirol East and West counties of the attack.
