One person was killed and five others injured in a road ambush in the disputed Abyei area on Wednesday, an official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Amenthaguok County Commissioner Nyok Deng Rao said a public transport vehicle traveling from Abyei to Amieth Market was ambushed at Nyok Lith.

He said the driver of the vehicle identified as Manget Alor Deng Malek was shot dead, and five other people sustained injuries including a woman and her three-year-old child.

Commissioner Deng said the wounded were rushed to the hospital for treatment but the attackers made away with the belongings of the 12 passengers.
