A 30-year-old man was killed and another injured in clashes between Hiyalla and Haforiere youth last Friday in Torit.

Speaking to the Radio Tamazuj Haforiere youth leader Mario Oito claimed that youth from Hiyalla stormed a groundnut farm in Haforiere and clashed, killing the man.

“These people went to the groundnut farm, then those of Hiyalla came and found these guys in the garden and immediately shot two of them. One died and one is injured. The one who died is Edir Ohoro and the one injured is Obele Ohio. Those of Hiyalla just came at around 11:00 AM and nobody was aware they just found them at the place of groundnuts. Monyomiji followed the footsteps and they entered Hiyalla but I told the youth to return,” he narrated.

Meanwhile, the chief of Nyibira boma in Hiyalla John Oromo confirmed that youth from his area killed the young man in Haforiere but claims that the two groups clashed as they went to the farm.

“This is true. I got the information because my people were also going to the farm to bring sorghum but those of Haforiere crossed this river of ours called Hoss and they met my people. In the process, they were asked they started shooting my people. So these guys fought with them truly. I heard that one died but one was injured,” Oromo said.

The chairperson of the Hujang Peace and Reconciliation Committee Oduho Dente expressed frustration over the incident and asked the government to take action.

Jacob Attari Albano, Otuho Peace Taskforce Chairman also condemned the incident and said both sides must be investigated and perpetrators brought to book.

In August, the two communities during a dialogue forum organized by Otuho Peace Taskforce in Hiyalla witnessed by state officials reconciled and promised to live peacefully.
