The residents of the capital Khartoum’s twin city of Omdurman have complained about the rising prices of vegetables, fruits, and meat amid the ongoing war.

They said the items were also becoming scarce.

A resident of Al-Thawra area, Tarig Osama, told Radio Tamazuj: “There is a shortage of some types of vegetables.”

He said the price increases were becoming unbearable, especially of meat.

Sahar Saif Al-Yazal said: “Vegetables have become unaffordable and the varieties have become limited.”

“A kilo of potatoes has reached 3,000 Sudanese pounds, tomatoes 6,000 pounds, and there is a shortage of eggplants,” she added.

A kilo of lamb, Al-Yazal said, was going for 18,000 pounds and a kilo of beef for 12,000 pounds.

Alaa Eldin Abdallah commented that, they only wanted the basic foodstuff to be available during the war, noting that his daily wage is 11,000 pounds.

He explained that there was greed among the vegetable traders and that obtaining fruits had become a dream, with bananas being the only affordable option.

Randa Osman told Radio Tamazuj that the prices had risen sharply and some items, especially vegetables and fruits, had disappeared, along with the increase in meat prices.”

Omdurman has been under the control of the Sudan Armed Forces since the war began on April 15, 2023.
