Commissioner of Yei County Samuel Henry told Radio Tamazuj that security tensions witnessed in Lainya last week forced the majority of residents to flee their homes, resulting in the closure of the road between Yei and Juba.

Separately, Commissioner of Lainya County Augustino Keri said over 20,000 people who fled violence in Lainya are now living in the open. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Augustino pointed out that some fled to the bush while others went to Wonduruba.

He said the condition of these people is very bad and they lack food and tents amid heavy rainfall in the area. Keri added that local authorities and humanitarian groups are doing their best to provide assistance to those affected.

Separately, Kaya border crossing is now reported to be open and some Yei citizens are crossing into Uganda.
