Officials in Bor and Pibor trade accusations over recent attacks

Officials in the greater Bor counties have asked their counterparts in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area to control young people, who they allege have been involved in several attacks over the past few months, including one this week.

GPAA officials deny all of the charges.

This week there were allegations that a group of youth from the GPAA attacked cattle keepers in Pakenytui Camp. Mamer Ruuk, the Bor County commissioner, said two of the cattle keepers were killed and one attacker also died.

Peter Wal Athieu, an official in the Bor region, said there have been several incidents since October, including the killing of wildlife personnel and foreign traders and an attack on Jalle, which left 25 people dead.

“These criminal behaviors curtail the citizens to enjoy peace and stability and serve as an obstacle to development,” the minister wrote in a statement.

GPAA officials have repeatedly denied that young people from their area are behind the attacks.
