Official reports dire conditions of displaced people in Mundri East

Western Equatoria Minister of Information Daniel Zingifuaboro has eported deteriorating humanitarian conditions of people who fled to the bush recently due to insecurity in Mundri East County.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the state minister said the conflict-affected people are experiencing lack of food and basic services. He added that hundreds of local residents had fled into the bush since fighting erupted over the last four months in the area.

Daniel pointed to absence of humanitarian organizations operating in the county. However, he said he could not confirm reports of death due to hunger, saying the number of deaths could be higher than what was reported.

“I am sure the number of the people who have died could be 5 or 7 because nobody knows how do the people and children who are in bush in survive,” he said. “So, I cannot rule out that there people dying in the bush due to hunger and there are no shelters and health services as well,” he added.

He called on the national government in Juba to expedite the provision of humanitarian aid to the internally displaced people in the county.
