Authorities in Nyirol County, located in Jonglei State, have commenced the registration of returnees in an effort to streamline service provision and facilitate their resettlement. The registration process, which began on August 15th, is expected to continue until all returnees have been registered.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, James Bol Makuey, the Nyirol County commissioner, shed light on the ongoing initiative. He stated, “The registration process commenced in Langkien and has since progressed to Pulturuk, with plans to cover all areas. The primary objective of this registration is to gather comprehensive statistics on the individuals returning from Sudan and Ethiopia.”
Gatkhor Duol Lul, the Coordinator of the County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), reported significant progress in the registration efforts, saying, “We have already registered a total of 2,682 returnees in Langkien alone. Our dedicated RRC and WFP personnel are currently stationed in Pulturuk. Once the registration exercise is concluded, we will proceed with providing them the necessary assistance.”
Expressing concern over the dire humanitarian situation, Biel Jiek, a prominent Nyirol youth leader, made a heartfelt plea for swift aid provision to the returnees. He emphasized the urgency of addressing their needs, stating, “The humanitarian situation is appalling, and we implore that aid for these returnees be treated as a matter of utmost urgency.”
The registration process represents a critical step towards understanding the scope of the returnee population and ensuring that they receive the support required for their resettlement and well-being. As Nyirol County continues to register its returnees, efforts to provide essential assistance and relief will remain a top priority.
