Authorities in Nyirol County in Jonglei State said they have recovered two abductees kidnapped from Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) during last year’s attack by an armed Jonglei State youth group in parts of GPAA.
Nyirol County Commissioner James Bol Makuey of Nyirol told Radio Tamazuj that they rescued a mother and her 6-month-old baby girl from her captors in the county headquarters, Langkien town, in the ongoing recovery mission on Thursday.
“After we learned that there was a woman from Murle with her child under the control of one of the youths, we immediately intervened by arresting the culprit and recovered the abductees,” he said. “The woman is now under my custody.”
Commissioner Bol said arrangements are going on to have the abductees flown to Pibor for a reunion with their loved ones.
Meanwhile, Brg. John Deng, the county police inspector, also confirmed the recovery and said the suspect is being held to help in the rescue of more abductees.
For his part, Kelang Abraham, the GPAA information minister, lauded authorities in Jonglei state for the continuous recovery of their abductees and that they are also committed to working for peace with all their neighbors.
