One person was killed and another one injured in a foiled cattle raid in Nyirol County of Jonglei State on Thursday, an official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, James Bol Makuey, the Nyirol County commissioner, said the Thursday morning incident occurred when the suspected cattle raiders were ambushed by the local youth before they could raid in Waat.
“The attackers were spotted by our local youths before they could raid cattle from Waat. So they were fought off leaving one dead and from the local youths, one was injured,” he said.
For his part, Brigadier Marial Gatluak, a police officer in Nyirol, also confirmed the incident and that the area is now calm after the attackers were repulsed.
Cattle raid is commonplace among the communities in Greater Jonglei.
