Nyeel Camp chief says roads insecure for refugees

Hundreds of South Kordofan refugees at Nyeel camp in Unity State suffer from the poor security at the camp, a refugee leader says.

Haseeb Tutu Gamar, the camp manager, told Radio Tamazuj that there are security threats facing refugees at Nyeel. He said that clashes erupt from time to time among the refugees themselves and sometimes between the refugees and the citizens of Nyeel.

The refugee leader also pointed to a growing phenomenon of thefts and looting along the roads leading to the camp, including the route from Pariang.

Among the reasons for fighting within the camp are disputes about dating women. Gamar noted that in cases of an attack on another man’s wife, the cases ought to go to courts but this become complicated in the absence of a recognized judicial system.

Gamar added that there are also problems and disputes among youth, which are sometimes leading to problems between the refugees and Nyeel citizens.
