Officials of the Nyala Chamber of Commerce in South Darfur State have said they are beginning a campaign to clean the Nyala market in preparation for the resumption of commercial activities.

The head of the Nyala Chamber of Commerce, Mohammed Hussein Dhi Al-Nour, told Radio Tamazuj that the cleaning of the main Market was launched on Sunday in preparation for its reopening.

He appealed to the merchants who left Nyala to return to the town, saying that it was safe and stable.

“We (traders) are not affiliated to political parties and there is no hostility in trade,” he said.

A trader, Ahmed Abdul Karim Al-Safi, said he is among a large number of the town’s inhabitants and merchants cleaning the market.

He stated that merchants could open their shops because the town was now calm after the disappearance of negative forces, referring to the groups of armed men who were looting and stealing.

According to Radio Tamazuj’s correspondent in the area, the town is littered with large quantities of spent ammunition cartridges of different calibers as a result of the recent clashes between the army and Rapid Support Forces.
