The number of street children has continued to rise in Wau town, latest figures show, despite the accelerated efforts of authorities to address the situation, a local official said.
Information Minister Naima Abbas told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the number of homeless children has increased from 700 to 800 within a period of two months in the town of Wau.
She attributed the problem to the current economic crisis and conflict in the country.
The state minister pointed out that being homeless has a profound effect on children’s health, well-being and development of the country.
