Several sources in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State’s capital Aweil have confirmed that the number of the members of fire brigade police officers arrested in Aweil town rose to 38.
This comes a few days after authorities arrested 18 for investigation due to the protest in April 2016 over an issue of salaries increment.
The state’s information minister, James Wieu, has jusitified the arrests on the basis that the fire brigade soldiers randomly shot in the air, injuring two civilians during their protest.
A source in Aweil town who declined to be named told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the arrests have continued, saying that 12 officers were again pick up on Monday on their parade.
The same source said the investigations are continuing. Attempts to reach the state police commissioner were unsuccessful.
