Youths who are currently staying in the protection of civilians (PoC) site in Juba declared Sunday as a cultural day in order to promote unity among each other and reduce stress of the camp residents.
According to Nhial D. Chioh, who is the chairman of a cultural group in the camp, the reason for the event Sunday was to reduce trauma created into the minds of young people in the camp.
He said that singers are using songs to encourage youths who opt to fighting among themselves not to fight, saying this has eliminated fighting among the IDP youths since June this year. Sometimes the groups tour the camp zone by zone to disseminate messages to the residents in all the camps run by UNMISS in Juba, he said.
There are four main sections of the Nuer in Juba PoCs: Lich, Latjor, Bieh and Pow. They have two main dances currently in the camp, USB for Lich and Nyadithar for Latjor.
One of the messages conveyed in song is that the people should not fight among each other and loot each other because their land is rich in resources. Another message encourages people to support children whose fathers are absent.
The dance on Sunday was scheduled from 4-6 p.m.
