Refugees from the Nuba Mountains living in Yida camp in South Sudan’s Unity State have complained about shortages of food and basic services, a camp manager said.
Al-Nur Saleh who manages the Yida refugee camp told Radio Tamazuj that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that it will not provide aid assistance to the Nuba refugees unless they move to Ajuong Thok and Pamir refugee camps.
“There are problems of basic services in the camp, we called on the UN to provide services in those camps, we need services such as health, water and education,” said Saleh.
Saleh pointed out that the refugees were experiencing shortages of food and basic services in the camp, saying about 5,000 people have already been relocated to Ajuong Thok and Pamir camps.
He noted that the relocation of refugees from Yida camp will not be possible during this year’s cultivation season, while calling on the UN refugee agency to provide services in the new camps.
