Two policemen were allegedly killed by a National Security Services (NSS) officer in South Sudan’s Gok State on Sunday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, an official at Gok state court Salva Aroul Aroul said the police and NSS officer exchanged fire at the police station leading to the deaths of Deng Agwely and Dak Manyang, both police officers.

According to Aroul, the NSS officer wanted to free his brother who was in detention.

"He asked the police to release his brother, and when they refused to respond to his request, he ordered their arrest. But again they resisted arrest, he opened fire at them causing a shootout that killed the two police officers,” he said.

Aroul added that the NSS officer, who sustained injuries in the shootout, is receiving treatment at the state hospital.
