The family of the ousted governor of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State Joseph Bangasi Bakasoro said security agents prevented from visiting their son on Monday.
Dudu Bakasoro, who is Bakasoro’s sister, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that her brother has been in detention for more than two months without any investigation or charge.
She further said Bakasoro’s health condition is deteriorating every day in the custody of National Security Service (NSS).
Dudu pointed out that they previously petitioned President Salva Kiir’s office, the National Security Service (NSS), and the Ministry of Justice to demand his release or bring him to trial and hire a defense lawyer.
In late December last year, Bakosoro was arrested after being summoned by NSS and has been held in the security service’s Jebel headquarters ever since without charge or access to a lawyer.
A relative of former governor Joseph Bakosoro previously told Radio Tamazuj that they believe NSS arrested him on accusations that he is communicating with armed groups fighting the government in Western Equatoria state.
Bakosoro served as governor since his election in 2010 until his removal by presidential decree in August 2015.
