Northern Upper Nile hails investigation into Maban-Melut land dispute

The governor of Northern Upper Nile State Deng Akuei Kak on Wednesday lauded the intervention of the national government to settle the dispute over Kilo 10 between Melut and Maban counties.

The governor of Northern Upper Nile State Deng Akuei Kak on Wednesday lauded the intervention of the national government to settle the dispute over Kilo 10 between Melut and Maban counties.

“I have been telling the two communities during a series of meetings with them that we are one people living together for years and if there is an issue, we need to sit down as brothers and sisters and resolve it amicably,” Akuei said in an interview with Radio Tamazuj.

Governor Deng said the dispute over the ownership of Kilo 10 has caused lives three times since 1964. “I told the two communities that whatever the outcome of the findings of the high-level committee from Juba chaired by Dr. James Wani Igga, Vice President of the Republic, should be accepted,” he said.

“Whatever decision, even it is bitter and painful, it should be swallowed. I am saying this because I know the effects of war do not discriminate,” he added.
