Authorities in Northern Upper Nile State are calling on aid agencies to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Banketa area, in greater Maban County, saying people in the area are facing a humanitarian crisis.
Over the weekend, at least 18 people were killed, 24 others wounded and many others displaced during an armed attack by unknown gunmen.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Northern Upper Nile State governor Deng Akuei Kak appealed to humanitarian agencies and the private sector to urgently intervene and rescue the people there.
Akuei added that another state delegation headed by the speaker of the State assembly will soon visit the region and assess the situation.
