Northern Bahr el Ghazal parliament returns from recess

The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Legislative Assembly returned from a recess of three months on Monday. They held a reopening celebration attended by the Caretaker Governor Akot Deng Akot, the parliament speaker Isaac Makau Ayok, other senior government officials and representatives of United Nations agencies.

They held a reopening celebration attended by the Caretaker Governor Akot Deng Akot, the parliament speaker Isaac Makau Ayok, other senior government officials and representatives of United Nations agencies.

Akot congratulated members of parliament for their work serving the communities in their respective constituencies. He told them that his top priority was to improve security at the state’s borders.

‘‘In our efforts to address security matters in the state, my government will not compromise the security of our citizens. We shall coordinate with our gallant forces to ensure that our citizens along the border areas are safe,’’ said the governor.

He also mentioned education, promoting health care, and maintenance of roads, and clean drinking water for the communities in the rural areas.

Speaking also at the reopening session, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Speaker Makau Ayok appreciated those who had turned out to attend the occasion. He assured the rally that the parliament is the eye and voice of the people of the state.

The speaker has announced his support for the newly appointed Governor Akot Deng Akot and wished him to work with the MPs hand in hand. He also said that the best achievement for the year so far was that the house has impeached the former Caretaker Governor Kuel Aguer Kuel for poor management.
