Northern Bahr el Ghazal MPs delay recess as state faces hunger

Northern Bahr el Ghazal State's legislative assembly has delayed its recess as planned to begin today for a period of one month and a half.

Garang Mawen, Acting Chairperson of the assembly’s information committee, told Radio Tamazuj that the planned recess will not be possible now, saying it was deferred as the members of parliament have to deliberate on the state hunger crisis, among other issues.

He pointed out that the State Minister of Trade was summoned to appear before the house to present a report on the Letters of Credit given to companies to supply food items to the state. He disclosed that the minister failed to appear before the assembly yesterday.

Normally a parliament recess in the state can last for about three months.
