The Northern Bahr el Ghazal drivers association says that there are a lot of difficulties facing transport in the region, especially the increased fuel prices.
According to an official statement from the association last week, they plan to cancel all transport due to high fuel prices.
Dhel Mawein Dhel of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal’s Drivers Association is calling upon the state government to consider conditions that face them. He also appeals for the government to authorize higher fees amount for all trips in the area. Mawein said that bus owners cannot set transport fees by their own decision.
“The problem is the issue of fuel, the drum of fuel costs 3,200, and it is also scarce, so the drivers cannot take passengers with the same bus fare, because it will not cover the loss,” he said.
“It is not good to increase the fares without informing the state government so that they see the situation, the passengers are from us, some of them are our brothers, we also pay money for transport, we need a solution, we cannot blame the drivers because prices of spare parts are increasing, and all the citizens know what is happening in South Sudan,” he explained.
