The state government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal has passed a resolution that cuts Friday from the working days of the week in order to encourage cultivation during the current planting season.

Speaking on Monday, the State Minister of Information and Broadcasting Wek Kuch Deng said each Friday will be dedicated for this purpose from May until the first week of September.

“We sat at the council of ministers and there was a resolution passed by the council to remove Friday from working days in the week. All government employees are expected not to come to their work places on Fridays,” Wek explained.

This is not the first time the state government has staken this step.

However, the resolution is unclear on some points, for example, teachers seem to be exempted from the change.
