A civil society organization official has urged local chiefs in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr al Ghazal region to encourage peace and unity among people in various communities.
Jiel Teng, a representative of South Aid, made the call during a one-day forum on the roles of traditional authorities in promoting peace.
He said chiefs need empowerment to resolve conflicts in their areas. “Chiefs have great roles to support peace. Women and youth must also support peace,” Teng said.
The event, held in Aweil on Friday, attracted 35 leaders from various communities, civil society organizations and government.
The one-day forum was supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its SUCCESS program.
