Northern Bahr al Ghazal chief whip says his constitutional privileges denied

The chief whip of Northern Bahr al Ghazal’s legislative assembly said the acting caretaker governor denied him his constitutional privileges due to his political affiliation with former caretaker governor.

The chief whip of Northern Bahr al Ghazal’s legislative assembly said the acting caretaker governor denied him his constitutional privileges due to his political affiliation with former caretaker governor.

Benson Opuothmalo had stood against the removal of former caretaker governor Kuel Aguer Kuel, who was ousted after a lengthy power struggle with his predecessor Paul Malong, who is now the SPLA chief of general staff.

“They have detained my vehicle yet I am still the government chief whip,” Opuothmalo said.

“Also the sitting arrangement in parliament has been changed. My seat has been moved to the back row yet I have not been relieved of my duties. I asked the speaker and he said I have been removed from my position. I told him I am not refusing changes but let it be done in a way consistent with rules and regulations,” he added.

Opuothmalo said if they are going to remove him from his position they need to follow the law.

The lawmaker then criticised the acting caretaker governor Salva Chol Ayat.

“The man is incapable, indecisive, and incompetent,” he said. “He can not make a decision as a leader. He is being driven by others without rejecting their advises because he is weak.”
