Water supply to citizens in El-Fashir town in Sudan’s North Darfur State will be stable and meet the demand soon, a senior official has said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Engineer Abdul Shafi Abdullah, the Director General of the State Water Corporation, expressed regret for the interruptions that the city has been witnessing, saying they are working to ensure the supply of water is stable.
Abdullah further said water services in the city were halted due to the power outage caused by the lack of fuel.
“We have conducted some maintenance on the pipeline and some stations are ready to resume work immediately,’ he said.
According to the official, emergency engineering teams are already dispatched and ready to help restore the water supply.
“Once we get the fuel and the power is restored in the town, we shall begin to pump water to citizens in El Fashir,” he said.
Fighting between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in North Darfur State has crippled basic services significantly, including food, medicines and fuel supply.
