Amidst the dire humanitarian situation in the Ali bin Abi Talib School shelter for displaced persons in El Fasher, North Darfur State, hundreds of families who have fled Kutum locality find themselves grappling with severe challenges. The scarcity of food, medicine, and drinking water has created a distressing environment for these internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Saturday, Ahmed Yahyah Ali, the official overseeing the displaced persons center, said the situation has become increasingly critical over the past four days, with food supplies running out. This has particularly impacted vulnerable groups such as children and mothers, exacerbating their already difficult circumstances.

Ali expressed deep concern, stating, “The displaced people are grappling with hunger and disease, lacking even the basic necessities of shelter tents and blankets during this harsh winter season.”

Compounding the issue, Ali revealed that humanitarian aid from organizations operating in temporary shelter centers in El Fasher has come to a halt. This cessation is attributed to the transition from the end of the year to the beginning of the new year, leaving those affected without the vital assistance they desperately need.

Aziza Al-Tayeb Hamed, the women’s representative at the center, has confirmed the grim humanitarian conditions faced by those escaping the city of Kutum.

“The displaced people remained without food for four days in the absence of all organizations working in the humanitarian field, and this exacerbated the conditions of the displaced people, especially children and mothers,” highlighted Hamed.

Expressing deep concern, Abdul Salam Mohammed Idris, a leader at the center, issued a stark warning about potential deaths among children and some mothers in the coming days if the current situation persists. He urgently called on competent authorities to intervene and save the lives of the displaced.
