The Otash Organization for Peace and Development has commenced the rehabilitation of the Shagra water line, located to the west of El Fasher town, the capital of North Darfur State.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj following a meeting involving the State Water Sector Director on Monday, the Water and Environmental Sanitation Project Director, and the Project Manager, Ibrahim Saleh, the representative of the Otash Organization, announced the organization’s commitment to the rehabilitation of the Shagra water line.
Ibrahim explained that the rehabilitation initiative aligns with the Resilience Strengthening Framework supported by UNICEF. He expressed hope that the project would significantly enhance water services for the citizens of El Fasher.
The Director of the Water and Environmental Sanitation Project, Engineer Ismail Mohammed Ahmed, commended UNICEF for its significant support towards the Shagra water line rehabilitation project.
He announced the formation of a dedicated technical committee within the water sector to conduct a comprehensive field survey aimed at assessing the initial requirements for the rehabilitation of the water line.
Since the onset of the situation in Sudan in mid-April, El Fasher and several localities in North Darfur state have experienced fluctuations in water services. This has been attributed to a shortage of fuel, which, in turn, has impacted the operation of water supply lines.
