Elements of the Joint Darfur Movements Forces are detaining a government employee without any explanation, Radio Tamazuj has learnt.

Mariam Abdullah Eissa, the mother of the head of the Graduate Employment Office in North Darfur, Mohammed Abdelgadir Jallab, told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that her son was arrested from their home 10 days ago by three armed men.

“I have visited the place where my son is being held three times, but they refused to let me see him and I was insulted by the soldiers of the Joint Forces,” she said.

Abdelgadir Adam Jallab, the father of the detainee, stated that he had not been able to sleep since his son was arrested. He mentioned that he attempted to see his son following a request from the movements’ leadership, but was denied access.

“All I want is to see my son to make sure he is in good health,” he added.

The Secretary-General of the Al-Midob community Youth, Ezzedine Nagara, attributed the arrest to the employee’s refusal to hand over a government vehicle to the Joint Forces.

“After the Joint Forces demanded the vehicle, Mohammed Abdelgadir handed it over to the North Darfur State Government Secretariat,” Nagara explained.

Nagara further stated that the Al-Midob youth have strongly condemned the illegal detention and demanded the immediate release of their community member. He accused the movements of targeting members of the Al-Midob community.

Jallab is an active member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, led by Malik Aggar. Recently, journalists and political activists in North Darfur have been subjected to widespread arrests by the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Minni Arko Minnawi and the Justice and Equality Movement, led by Jibril Ibrahim. Among those detained is Ahmed Jamam of Sudan TV.

Radio Tamazuj attempted to contact the leadership of the Joint Forces but was unsuccessful.
