The acting governor of Sudan’s North Darfur State, Al-Hafiz Bakhit Mohammed, at the weekend, announced the launch of a popular resistance in El-Fasher Town to support the Sudan Armed Forces (Forces) and its allied armed movements to defeat the rebellion.
According to Sudan News Agency (SUNA), during his address on Saturday at El Fasher University, the governor commended the Darfur Tribes Forum for supporting the army and armed movements.
Governor Bakhit stressed that SAF is a well-established institution that has not relied on links to individuals since its formation as a force for the defense of Sudan. He said that the killing and destruction of infrastructure committed by the renegade Rapid Support Forces (RSF) was aimed at displacing citizens and occupying the country and that what happened in the city of El Geneina is evidence of that.
“The elimination of the 1956 state is the obliteration of all historical cultures inherited before the establishment of the Mahdist state, which united under its banner all the sultanates and Mamluks that formed the 56 states,” Bakhit said.
According to the governor, the ongoing conflict has destroyed the social fabric in Darfur and requires all social components, without exception, to forget the bitterness and wounds of the past, join the popular resistance, and work for the unity of Sudan.
Meanwhile, the commander of SAF’s Sixth Infantry Division, Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al-Khidir, congratulated the Commander-in-Chief of the People’s Armed Forces and his assistants, and the Chief of Staff, congratulated the merging of the Armed Forces in the Wadi Sidna Military Region, and Karari with the forces of the Omdurman Military Region in the Corps of Engineers, praying for the souls of the martyrs of the Battle of Karama, both military and civilian.
“I wish a speedy recovery to the wounded and injured, and that God will release the captives,” he said.
Gen. Al-Khidir said that Omdurman is now safe and pointed out that the armed forces will soon begin liberating the whole of Khartoum, Gezira, and the cities of Darfur and Kordofan that were defiled by the hands of the rebellion.
The army officer strongly denied rumors and allegations spread by the RSF that rebel media rooms abroad about the existence of disagreements among the armed forces insisted that they were united.
He praised the Sixth Infantry Division for their heroic role and for confronting the rebellion in El Fasher from the outbreak of war on 15 April 2023 until the forces of the armed struggle movements joined them.
“All higher education institutions in Darfur have been affected by the ongoing war in the country and only El Fasher University remains functional due to, thanks to God, the armed forces, and armed struggle movements,” Al Khidir said.
