North Darfur governor approves ministerial plans

The acting governor of Sudan’s North Darfur State, Al-Hafiz Bakheet Mohammed has approved a work plan developed by the state agriculture ministry to cushion residents from the effects of the ongoing war in the region and country.

Governor Bakheet on Tuesday chaired the annual State Governing Council meeting at the State Secretariat. The meeting, attended by all council members, reviewed general performance reports, overall situations, and performance of government institutions, units, and service and developmental sectors.

The governing council also approved the action plan of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports in the state.

The plan includes several projects targeting the youth especially how to help them avoid drug addiction with a focus on economically beneficial programs.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Khalid Yousif Abu Waraga, the chairman of the Higher Council for Culture and Media and the official spokesman for the state government, told Radio Tamazuj agriculture ministry plans to help cultivate 5.3 million acres of farmland this season.

 “The council approved the work plan of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Wealth which includes several programs with the proposed agricultural area for the current season reaching 5.3 million acres, including cash and food crops,” he said.

According to Yousif, the council emphasized the necessity of the success of the current agricultural season as it represents the food security valve amid the country’s circumstances, with a focus on food crops, in addition to cash crops.
