An eight-year-old child died and at least four civilians were injured during ground-to-air missile attacks and random shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher town of North Darfur State on Friday. This occurred concurrently with an airstrike by the Sudanese Air Force on RSF positions east and north of El Fasher city.
Several eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj that they witnessed a Sudanese Air Force warplane flying over the area for an hour, prompting RSF forces to retaliate with ground-to-air missiles.
Simultaneously, they fired indiscriminate shells west of the city, resulting in the death of the child in the Diem Seluk neighbourhood, located 3 kilometres north of the Hajar Qadu market.
Multiple medical sources confirmed on Saturday that the injuries were caused by random shelling, with the toll rising to four injuries as of Saturday morning.
The war between army chief Abdel Fattah Burhan and his former deputy and RSF commander, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has since April last year killed tens of thousands, destroyed infrastructure and crippled the economy.
Several ceasefire agreements brokered by Saudi and US mediators have failed to end violence in the country.
