No shelters for street children in Yirol: official

The Eastern Lakes State Minister of Education, Gender, Child and Social Welfare says almost 250 street children registered by her ministry are living under trees without shelters.

The Eastern Lakes State Minister of Education, Gender, Child and Social Welfare says almost 250 street children registered by her ministry are living under trees without shelters.

Speaking to a local radio station, Victoria Achol Kueth said the situation of these children will be getting worst during the rainy season.

Achol is appealing to national and international organizations working in the education sector to support her ministry with temporary shelters.

“There are many children that are on street, they need to be supported they need to be given their right like education, health services, food and other things. In Yirol now these children are staying under trees,” said Achol.

She says 240 street children are under care of her ministry, despite the challenges facing them.
