Health facilities in Ajeep County of Aweil East State are facing critical drug shortages, according to county commissioner Deng Yel Ajeep.
Commissioner Deng told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that there have been no drugs or medicines delivered to the county, adding that they also lack clean drinking water.
The local official said local residents are complaining about the difficulties of getting medicines and clean water.
“There are 32 water sources in the area but some have broken down, so the water sources we have now are not enough,” Deng said.
“Health situation will worsen during the dry season because citizens will try to fetch water from contaminated water sources,” he added.
The commissioner appealed to the relevant authorities and aid agencies to provide medicines and clean water to the people before their situation worsens further.
A large number of People in South Sudan have very poor access to health care. There is a shortage of facilities and skilled health workers and a very limited supply of medicines and equipment.
Vulnerable groups like women, children and the elderly are particularly at risk.
