The commissioner of Raja County in South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state said they won’t issue nationality certificates to citizens living near Sudan because the international border demarcation is incomplete.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Commissioner James Benjamin said the local authorities are unable to identify the nationality of many people especially in Kafia Kingi and Hufrat al Nihas areas between South Darfur and Western Bahr al Ghazal states.

Benjamin pointed out that there is intermingling and intermarriage between many tribes living in those areas. He added it is difficult to differentiate between communities along the border with Sudan in those areas.

He stated the identity of the citizens will be determined when the common borders between Sudan and South Sudan are demarcated.
