The head of the local government in Raja County says that a Sudanese warplane bombed a village in the area yesterday. Nobody was hurt in the bombing, he said.
County Commissioner James Benjamin explained, “What happened is an Antonov of Sudan at 1:32 bombed Deleiba Payam with 24 bombs. Twenty bombs fell within the village and four fell outside in the forest. The citizens when they heard the sound of the bombs had fled so there were no casualties among the civilians.”
The bombing may have targeted forces of the Darfur rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) which allegedly based forces in Raja County for some time now.
Asked about the alleged presence of Sudanese armed movements in the area, the commissioner said, “The armed movements have no presence here,” stressing that the only forces in Deleiba were SPLA and police.
Correction: This article initially reported the location of the bombing to be ‘Dereiba’ when in fact it is ‘Deleiba’.
