Several people were treated and discharged at the Yei civil hospital Tuesday evening after a truck carrying Logo Boma football players was involved in an accident.
The Yei Local Football Association (YLFA) confirmed the accident saying the team was returning from Abegi after a tournament organized by Caritas to promote peace.
YLFA secretary Isaac Mamur said the tournament was an inter-Boma peace contest between Otogo and Logo, both of Yei.
He said the accident happened at a place called Yokoronga and nine people were injured, with seven of them treated and discharged.
Mamur said YLFA was working with the supporting partner to ensure the teams are taken care of.
Project team leader Vicky Samuel Manuela said three players suffered serious injuries with the rest sustaining minor injuries, and were out of danger.
“We are really struggling with the issue of good roads. The roads are really bad and that is one of the hindrances to our activities reaching the remote areas,” she said.
Manuela urged the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of the roads connecting the rural areas to Yei town.
“We need the roads for our activities, which many people in the remote areas cannot access,” she said.
The last time players were involved in such an accident was before the 2016 crisis when the Yei team played the refugees at the Lasu Payam.
