Police in Nimule area of Eastern Equatoria State on Monday impounded a truck carrying illicit drugs.

The truck was carrying steroids drugs locally known as ‘Borotin’, according to police.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Deputy Police Inspector Captain Richard Clement said the truck driver is being investigated.

“We have a case here. We arrested a trailer coming from Uganda with illegal drugs. These drugs affect women’s health by making their buttocks and legs bigger when they take it, which is illegal here in the country,” he explained.

According to the police officer, investigations into the matter is ongoing.

Lt. Col. Debol Riak Kok, the acting chief of customs at the Nimule border crossing point, said a committee was formed to continue with the investigation process.

“We formed a committee to carry out investigations because we have already seized the drugs. The committee is composed of officials from customs, security, food procurement and the standards bureau to check what is written on the sample. All these illegal drugs will be burnt to ashes after investigations,” he said.

According to the Penal Code of South Sudan, possession of illegal drugs attracts a penalty of between 7-14 years in jail.
