Non governmental organizations operating in Pochalla County of South Sudan’s Greater Pibor Administrative Area have evacuated the area due to growing insecurity.
Mobilization is said to be ongoing in the county and locals fear fighting could break out at any time, a source on the ground said.
A fight between militia under the county commissioner and the guards of the Anuak King Akwai Agada left six people dead and fifteen wounded on 14 July. The fight occurred when the guards were ambushed on their way from Otallo to their boss’s home village.
Both sides are trading accusations in absence of mediation to diffuse tensions. SPLA forces in the area are reportedly reluctant to get involved in controlling the communal conflict.
