The community of Ngok Dinka has rejected forming a joint administration with the Sudanese government in the contested border region of Abyei.

Leaders of the Ngok Dinka and Misseriya tribes are expected to meet in Addis Ababa today to discuss the formation of joint institutions between the two sides.

Bulabek Deng Kuol, Paramount Chief of the Ngok Dinka tribe, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they reject the formation of joint institutions in Abyei with Sudan because of the previous experience that led to conflict in the area.

He explained that the leaders during the Addis Ababa meeting will discuss issues pertaining to peaceful coexistence while the joint oversight committee between the two countries will discuss issues to do with joint institutions in Abyei.

Hamad Dudu, a Misseriya tribal leader, said they support the formation of joint institutions in Abyei, saying the joint administration is very important as agreed upon by both sides in 2011.
