The Abyei Area Administration has announced that Ngok Dinka and Misseriya tribes have agreed to establish a joint market about 30 kilometers north of the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan in November.

Alor Dou Al Beit, the spokesman of the South Sudan’s Abyei administration, told Radio Tamazuj that the shared market will encourage peaceful coexistence between the two tribes.

He pointed out that joint committees are working to study the proposal and how to protect it. Dou Al Beit added that the market will also reduce the burden of importing goods and other materials from South Sudan.

The Abyei official explained that the proposed market will also help members of the Ngok Dinka who previously fled fighting to return back to their areas of origin.
