Ngok Dinka elder defects to Sudan’s NCP

An elder in the Ngok Dinka tribe of the contested Abyei region has announced his move to the National Congress Party of Sudan.

An elder in the Ngok Dinka tribe of the contested Abyei region has announced his move to the National Congress Party of Sudan.

Over the weekend Alor Fiang Kual Arop officially announced his return to Sudan, joining the ranks of the ruling party, state media in Khartoum reported.

He stated that the South Sudanese government does not have a vision to resolve the Abyei issue, adding that the region is not mentioned in the South Sudanese constitution, nor is it recorded on the map of South Sudan.

The Ngok Dinka leader stressed that Abyei and its people belong to Sudan.

“In South Sudan, we were considered employees, to be paid a salary. Nothing more than that. The SPLM has deceived us with jobs,” he said.

The Ngok Dinka chief was also quoted as accusing Western countries of being behind the crisis in the Abyei region.

In a related development, South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reportedly rejected the interim administration appointments proposed by Edward Lino, the co-chairman of the Abyei Oversight Committee.
