Ngok Dinka chiefs discuss repatriation of displaced villagers

A one-day consultative meeting of Ngok Dinka leaders kicked off yesterday in the disputed area of Abyei between Sudan and South Sudan.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, paramount chief Bulabek Deng Kuol said the meeting discussed voluntary repatriation of citizens who have been displaced by insecurity in some villages.

“We wanted to brainstorm on the future of the citizens and how we can restore stability in the area,” he said.

The Ngok Dinka tribal leader further said the meeting discussed the repatriation of the citizens and the importance of agriculture in Abyei.

“The meeting was attended by chiefs and sub-chiefs and other influential figures so that the message can reach all the citizens,” according to Bulabek.

Separately, Bulabek Deng said a planned peace meeting between Ngok Dinka and Misseriya tribes in Aweil town will kick off soon.

He told Radio Tamazuj that the meeting will involve members of civil society organizations, women and youth as well as herders.

He said 15 traditional leaders from their side will participate in the conference. He added about 10 people will represent youths and 10 others will represent women, besides the other representatives of herders and religious leaders.

He revealed that the total number of Ngok Dinka representatives at the peace meeting with the Misseriya could reach 45 people.
