Bulabek Deng Kuol, the paramount chief of the Ngok Dinka living in the contested Abyei region between South Sudan and Sudan, says the United Nations Interim Security Forces for Abyei (UNISFA) should remain in the area to protect civilians.

Kuol was reacting to accusations from Sudan’s National Youth & Student Authority group, who accused UNISFA of preventing Ngok Dinka and members of the Misseriya tribes from entering the area.

The Ngok Dinka chief downplayed the accusations in an interview with Radio Tamazuj and pointed out that UNISFA has a mandate to protect innocent civilians living in the area.
