Newly accredited US ambassador calls for peace in South Sudan

The newly accredited Ambassador of the United State to South Sudan called for peace and stability in South Sudan, vowing to support peace efforts in the world’s youngest nation.

Ambassador Thomas Hushek said this in his first audio statement following his accreditation as US Ambassador to South Sudan this morning.

Hushek emphasized the importance of finding an amicable solution to the ongoing violence in South Sudan.

The US diplomat reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s aspiration for peace, security and economic prosperity.

“South Sudan’s leaders both in government as well as opposition, must put the interest of South Sudanese first and finally bring peace to the country,” he said.

Hushek has been a diplomat since 1988.

The United State is South Sudan’s largest donor of humanitarian aid. It imposed an arms embargo on South Sudan in February, and sanctioned government officials and oil companies over the ongoing crisis in the youngest nation.
